88. The Overwhelming     

 

59th un-initialed sura, 46th un-initialed revealed, 68th revealed overall

 

In the name of God, the All Gracious, the All Merciful

 

 

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

                                  هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ

Have you received the narration regarding the overwhelming?

                                       وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ

Some faces on that day will be subdued,-

                                             عَامِلَةٌ نَاصِبَةٌ

-laboring, tired,-

 

5968 3226 192 140 4

                                        تَصْلَى نَارًا حَامِيَةً

-entering the intolerable Fire.

 

5969 3227 193 141 1613 5

                                      تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ

They are given drinks from a boiling spring.

 

5970 3228 195 143  6

                            لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلا مِنْ ضَرِيعٍ

There is no food for them except what is like dry thorns.

                            لا يُسْمِنُ وَلا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍ

It is neither nutritious nor does it satisfy hunger.

 

5972 3230 196 144 8

                                       وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاعِمَةٌ

Some faces on that day will be joyful.

                                            لِسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ

They are pleased with their efforts.

                                            فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ

In an exalted Garden.

 

5975 3233 199 147 1615 11

                                      لا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لاغِيَةً

They will hear no nonsense therein.

 

5976 3234 200 148 12

                                          فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ

Therein will be an ever-flowing spring.

                                        فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَرْفُوعَةٌ

Therein will be luxurious furnishings-

 

5978 3236 202 150 14

                                       وَأَكْوَابٌ مَوْضُوعَةٌ

-and pitchers of drinks always available,-

                                        وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ

-and cushions in row after row,-

 

5980 3238 204 152 16

                                           وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ

-and magnificent carpets throughout.

                    أَفَلا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَى الإبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

Do they not observe the camel, how it was created?

 

5982 3240 206 154 18

                               وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ

And the sky, how it was raised high?

 

5983 3241 207 155 1618 19

                              وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ

And the mountains, how they are fixed in place?

 

5984 3242 207 155 20

                            وَإِلَى الأرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ

And the land, how it is surfaced?

 

5985 3243 207 155 21

                                  فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُذَكِّرٌ

Therefore, continue to remind for indeed you are only a reminder.

                                    لَسْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمُصَيْطِرٍ

You have no power over them.
